For the fourth time, the European Cultural Centre, under the organization of the GAA Foundation, was hosting the international exhibition accompanying the 16th Architecture Biennale in Venice under the title “TIME SPACE EXISTENCE”, to which international institutions were invited alongside individual artists and architects. In the coordinates of “TIME SPACE EXISTENCE”, seven members of the Künstlerhaus came together under the curatorial direction of Isabel Belherdis and Tanja Prušnik and followed a call for entries in the field of architecture. The works, which have been brought together in an architectural-artistic presentation, were viewed at Palazzo Bembo from May 26 to November 25, 2018.
Lifting architecture out of its context and leaving depictions partial, works reflected the increasingly fragmented perception of spaces that human beings are subjected to today. And yet the position taken by each artist formed its own narrative thread, which the beholder could trace and follow deeper beneath the surface – by means of an integrated library, the folder and QR codes that revealed the personal motivations behind each artist’s work.
One could set off on a formal journey through time, a temporal journey through form, as manifested within a project, a location, a timeline, diving into the unending by opening oneself to the reflections of the space in interaction with the natural light.
Emotions move. Feelings are spatialized. Architecture is embodied. Light forms space.
Within architecture there is inscribed an orientation toward the human: it strives for function and
stability. Art, in contrast, essentially revolves around emotions and metamorphoses, spurning utility
and being self-sufficing in itself.
